Hey everyone, how are you?
Today is the last group in the current run for creative writing. I will have to wait six weeks for the next group to run.
The creative writing group has been an important part of my writing routine. It has helped me figure out short stories and poetry that I want to write. It is a nice place where everyone is supportive of each persons writing. And it is a good safe place to get feedback. Each session we start off with an exercise to get into the right frame of mind. We then do some writing exercises such as word salads and six word exercises. We have a time limit for how long we write for and then, if you want to, read what you’ve written. It is a good place to get in the mood to write.
So, it not being on for six weeks always throws me out of routine. This does not mean that I won’t be writing for the six weeks, just that I will have to motivate myself. Which can be hard when you struggle with mental health conditions. But I am going to do my utmost to get my own writing done. I want to get on with the new short story and new poetry. As I have so much in my head that I need to get down on paper.
I have also been reading some more. I find that you cannot be a writer without being a reader. I am still reading “A Brief History of Seven Killings.” It is good and I can see why it won the Man Booker Prize in 2015. I want to get on with the book and read more. I need to get back into the habit of carrying a book around with me to read when I am out and about. So, that I have the opportunity to read more. I am also still getting on with a non-fiction book. It has taken longer than I had hoped but I am determined to finish it. Reading for me is a great escape as I can lose myself in the story. It’s a great feeling.
